Tagore Dental College was started in 2007 with an intake of 100 students in the BDS course. So far 7 batches have passed out  and the 12th batch of students have joined for the academic year 2018-19.

Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics         3 seats,

ADMISSION - UNDERGRADUATE

 

The college admission is 100 per year, and since the college is affiliated to the State owned The TN Dr MGR Medical university, 65 seats are admitted by the Government Merit list through centralized counselling and the remaining 35 seats are also admitted through Government counselling for the management quota. The fee structure of both the Government quota and Management quota is fixed by the fee fixation committee appointed by the Government of Tamilnadu, which changes yearly.


Students who have passed the NEET qualifying examination and have passed 12th Board examinations only are eligible to apply for the BDS course. 50% is the eligibility for all students except for SC and ST students 40 % is the eligibility criteria. Qualified NEET students, who have passed their 12th Board examinations, have to apply to the Tamil Nadu State Government -Medical Education Department for centralized counselling, both for the government quota and management quota. The State Government prepares a merit list according to the NEET qualifying marks and calls the students for counselling for both the state government quota and management quota.

 

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION

 

The Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R Medical University stipulates the following Eligibility criteria for admission to the BDS course: Candidates with 50% marks on aggregate in Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany/Zoology) and English at the qualifying examination at the end of 12 years of study for all categories except for scheduled caste and tribe who are eligible with 40% aggregate. Graduate students should have one of the following subjects as major viz. Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology or should have passed the earlier qualifying examination with the above subjects. Students who have studied abroad, the equivalency of qualification as determined by the Association of Indian Universities and should have passed in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English upto 12th standard with 50% marks. Candidates should have completed the age of 17 years at the time of admission or complete the age on or before 31st December of the years of admission to the first year BDS course. The students who want to join BDS should appear for the NEET examinations and should have qualified in that.

 

 

ADMISSION - POST GRADUATE

 

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION

 A candidate for admission to the Master in Dental Surgery course, must possess a recognized degree of Bachelor in Dental Surgery awarded by a university in India and registered with the State Dental Council and has obtained provisional or permanent registration and has undergone compulsory rotatory internship of a year in an approved/recognized dental college:

 

SELECTION OF CANDIDATE

 There shall be a uniform NEET qualifying examination for admission to the post-graduate dental courses in each academic year conducted in the manner, as prescribed by the National Board of Examination or any other authority appointed by the Central Government in this behalf. The overall superintendence, direction and control of the NEET shall vest with the Council.

 

QUALIFYING CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION

(1)     The candidate has to secure the following category-wise minimum percentile in NEET for admission to post-graduate courses held in a particular academic year.

a.        General-  50th Percentile

b.        Person with locomotory disability of lower limbs - 45th Percentile

c.         Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes- 40th Percentile

  Provided that the percentile shall be determined on the basis of hig­­­hest marks secured in the All-India common merit list in NEET for post-graduate courses: Provided further, that when sufficient number of candidates in the respective categories fail to secure minimum marks as prescribed in NEET held for any academic year for admission to post-graduate courses, the Central Government in consultation with the Council may, at its discretion lower the minimum marks required for admission to post-graduate courses for candidates belonging to respective categories and marks so lowered by the Central Government shall be applicable for the said academic year only.

(2) The reservation of seats in dental college/institutions for respective categories shall be as per applicable laws prevailing in States/Union territories. An all India merit list as well as State-wise merit list of the eligible candidates shall be prepared on the basis of the marks obtained in NEET Test and candidates shall be admitted to post-graduate courses from the said merit list only. Provided that in determining the merit of candidates who are in service of Government/public authority, weightage in the marks may be given by the Government/competent authority as an incentive upto 10% of the marks obtained for each year of service in remote and/or difficult areas upto the maximum of 30% of the marks obtained in NEET. The remote and difficult areas shall be as defined by State Government / competent authority from time to time.

 (3) A candidate who has failed to secure the minimum percentile as prescribed in these regulations shall not be admitted to any post-graduate courses in any academic year.

 

COMMON COUNSELING

  1. There shall be a common counseling for admission to all post-graduate courses (Diploma/MDS) in all dental educational institutions on the basis of merit list of the NEET.
  2. The designated authority for counseling for the 50% All India Quota seats of the contributing States, as per the existing scheme for post graduate (Diploma/MDS) courses shall be the Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. Further Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India shall conduct counseling for all post-graduate (Diploma/MDS) Courses in Dental Educational Institutions of the Central Government, Universities established by an Act of Parliament and the Deemed Universities.
  3. The counseling for admission to post-graduate (Diploma/MDS) courses in all dental Educational Institutions in a State/Union Territory, including dental educational institutions established by the State Government, University established by an Act of State/Union Territory Legislature, Trust, Society, Minority Institutions shall be conducted by the State/Union Territory Government.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT CELL

Foreign Students : 
Students holding passports issued by foreign countries including People of Indian Origin (PIO) who have acquired citizenship of foreign countries. 
Non Resident Indians (NRI) 
Non Resident Indians students who passed qualifying examinations (12th Std / B.S / B.A degree) from schools or colleges situated in foreign countries ( or even if affiliated to Boards of Secondary Education or Universities located in India). Dependents of NRIs will not be included as NRI students. 
NRI Sponsored Students 
Students of Indian citizens whose immediate family members (Parents, Grandparents or students' siblings) is an NRI. Student admitted under this category cannot be given change of status during the study period if the status of the sponsor is changed. 

Documents required for admission of International Students:

  1. Visa: All the international students will require a student visa endorsed to this College for joining full time courses. No other endorsement is acceptable. The visa should be valid for the prescribed duration of the course. A visa is not required for NRI students.
  2. No Objection Certificate from GOI.
  3. Eligibility Certificate from University.

Eligibility Qualifications:

· ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION INTO UNDERGRADUATE COURSES: The candidate must have qualified in 10 + 2 or its equivalent examination recognized by Association of Indian Universities and must have qualified for the course by NEET examinations.

· ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION INTO POSTGRADUATE COURSES: International students, who have obtained their Bachelors Degree at home and recognized by The Dental Council of India are eligible for admission into the Postgraduate courses, along with postgraduate NEET qualification.

Admission of International Students:

Admission of all the international students will be done through the University’s International Students’ Cell. Students will generally be admitted in the beginning of the Academic year, Commencing from the month of September.

International Students cell(ISC)

The institution has an active international students cell to cater to the requirements of foreign students. The admin office of the University provides guidance and support to all enrolled students.Once admitted, the College shall provide necessary documents required for VISA application. Every student shall be required to apply for a Residential Permit within 14 days of arrival in India and directed to contact the Office of International Student Affairs at the earliest on arrival with their Passport and Visa. Living at Tagore Dental College offers a number of opportunities to the students to get involved in various curricular and extra-curricular activities along with the regular studies. The University hostel provides a homely environment to the international students.

  • ISC helps  to address their legal, academic, social and other issues at the local/university level, the sub-centre has an International students’ cell.
  • A senior faculty is appointed as the Coordinator of the cell, who attends these students as frequent as possible and enable their stay and study comfortable with the support of the Principal and office staff.
  • Extra care is taken to provide them available facilities on priority.

ISC is headed by the Vice Principal Dr C J Venkatakrishnan and assisted by Dr Rajesh Raman and office staff Mr Pushparaj.

International Students cell offers following services: 

1.        Foreigner's Regional Registration Office (FRRO) with required documents and obtain required permit. 

2.        English Speaking Course A special English course with a Duration of one to Two months shall be conducted for all the                   Foreign national students with in the campus free of cost, if necessary.

3.        International student pre-registration

5.        Developing opportunities for interaction amongst international and local UG and postgraduate students

6.        Placement Assistance

7.        General counselling and advice.

8.        Advice on local language, culture, habits, dress regulations and social and behaviour in public.

9.        Mentoring the foreign student with staff and pairing with a senior student for guidance.

10.       Special and specific introduction to the college and facilities and the neighbouring areas.

11. Conducting orientation and events to foster social and cultural adjustment and specialized Counseling on social issues
